Just learn something today

I learnt something today, and I want to share it

Prof. Abletor Sedofia from University of Ghana. “Academic excellence is overrated!”
Did I just say that? Oh, yes, I said it. Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life.

You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn’t mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer. The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorise it and reproduce it in an exam.

School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones.

So do I mean people shouldn’t study hard in school? Oh, no, you should. But don’t sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don’t limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start a business and fail. That’s a better Entrepreneurship 101.Join or start a club. Contest an election and lose. It will teach something Political Science 101 will not teach you. Attend a seminar. Read books outside the scope of your course. Go on missions and win a soul for eternal rewards…

Do something you believe in! Think less of becoming an excellent student but think more of becoming an excellent person. Make the world your classroom!”

The “TRUMPhet” just sounded

donald-trump

The much awaited sound from the electoral polls of the World’s largest economy just reached the ends of the earth. The Republican presidential candidate Mr Donald Trump amidst all that came to draw him down from entering the oval office and the compound of the White House has been pronounced the winner!

Words of encouragement, some of cries, both on social media and on News headlines herald the President-Elect on his landslide win against his Democrat counterpart Hillary Clinton.

And this date November 9th 2016 (11/9) the day Trump won and September 11th  9/11 the day that the world saw the real face of terror in the United States of America.

Photos: protest in Abuja over the execution of Nigerians in Indonesia

Members of United Nigerians in Diaspora (UNID) led by Dr. Paschal Okoli organized a peaceful protest in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on Monday, 11th May, urging the federal government  to intervene in the gruesome execution of Nigerians in Indonesia. More pics after the cut…

protest2

The protesters who carried placards with different inscriptions called on the federal government to do something about the ugly incident, even as they condemned the act of drug trafficking and other related offences by Nigerians, particularly in Indonesia, which attracts death penalty.

The group expressed confidence that the government can do something about the ugly development to forestall further killings of Nigerians in the country. They called on the federal government to do everything humanly possible to save the lives of the remaining seven (7) Nigerian inmates in Indonesia who are due for execution in no distant time. It would be recalled that about thirteen (13) Nigerians  were executed already in the ugly circumstance recently.

protest3

The Association equally recalled that two (2) Indonesian citizens who were found guilty in a similar offence in Malaysia were pardoned and sent back to their country (Indonesia) following the intervention of Indosian government. In another instance, ten (10) Indonesian citizens were condemned in Malaysia over similar offence but were later pardoned and sent back to Indonesia due to quick  and serious intervention of Indonesian government. Again, five (5) Indonesians have been condemned in Saudi Arabia presently over the same offence and the government of Indonesia is fighting tirelessly to secure their release.

The group therefore queried why Nigerian government is so indifferent towards the plight of her citizens in Indonesia.

The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) celebrates mum

TheRock Mothers day

In honour of Mother’s Day yesterday, former wrestler turned action hero, The Rock shared a touching story of how he and his mum went through poverty in the past & how they moved forward. He wrote;
‘Cool Mother’s Day story.. early am flight and I’m sittin’ across from my mom when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says “Son, I can’t believe the life I have.. grandma and grandpa would be so proud.” I asked her, “Are you happy ma?”. Just then the flight attendant placed my mom’s breakfast down on the table and my mom said to me, “Am I happy?.. I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me”. She bursts into tears and says “Yes, son I couldn’t be happier”. This is the woman who when I was 14yrs old we were evicted out of our apartment in Hawaii ’cause we couldn’t afford the $180 per week rent.
At this moment I’m shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose;) ’cause she just told me she’s happy. And y’all know when our parents tell us they’re happy, its so satisfying for us, ’cause it means we’ve done a good job for them as their kids.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the deserving amazing mamas out there. And Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mom who will no doubt kill me for posting this crying pic. #EnjoyBreakfastMom #GratefulTears #TryNotCryInTheEggs’

JONATHAN CRIES!!!

jonathan

Really? What did you actually expect my oga at the top? Unfortunately, that’s how some people are. They are only around you for what they can get, but as soon you are no longer in the position to be of help to them, they are gone. President Jonathan, during his Thanksgiving farewell service yesterday told his audience that he’s been abandoned by people who he once considered friends.

He said despite this, he is a fulfilled man and will continue to give his best to Nigeria.
“As long as I live, I will continue to do my best for the state because it has helped me as a person. I have to thank Nigerians especially my state for giving me the opportunity to serve as deputy governor, governor and the whole country gave me the opportunity to serve as Vice President and then President, first was to complete the tenure of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and later serve as President from which I am exiting now as a very happy and fulfilled man”.
“When I look at the whole picture of my life up to when I became the President of this country, and I say that if soldiers and police officers that have not received 0. 5 per cent of the benefits that I have received from the state can lay their lives for this country, I should do anything in the interest of Nigeria including paying the supreme price.”

Jonathan said he wasn’t surprised that friends and associates have abandoned him, since losing the election and he expects worst things to happen in future. He said those that benefited most from his government were same people crucifying him today but he wasn’t phased by it.

He thanked his ministers for having served him well and wished them the best in future endeavours.
“To my ministers, I wish you what I wish myself. They will have hard times, we will all have hard times. Our ways will be rough.”

But we are happy the ordinary people appreciate what we did and that is the most important. It’s not what the elite or the privileged few talk or say about you but what the majority of the Nigerian public think about your actions and inactions that matter.

“Like the Primate said, we came to Abuja peacefully and we are returning peacefully. “I thank the church and Nigerians because they stood by us at our most difficult times.

ISIS sets ‘honey traps’ to ensnare and execute homosexuals

ISIS-execution-video-Video-Shot1-640x480

In its crusade against homosexuals, the Islamic State is now resorting to sting operations, using jihadists posing as gay men to coax out offenders and execute them.

According to reports, a special unit of militia has been formed within ISIS to deal specifically with the eradication of homosexuals from Syria, Iraq and Libya.

One method employed is for militiamen of the Caliphate to send anonymous invitations for blind dates for men only; those who respond are summarily executed.

According to dissident groups working in the area, ISIS religious police have also begun pretending to be gay men in order to ferret others out, before arresting and executing them.

The ISIS regime views sodomy as the most deplorable practice, one punishable by death.

The terrorist group has already published a series of graphic videos showing the murder of supposed gay men, who are often thrown from tall buildings and stoned to death.

Some clips show large crowds gathered to watch the executions and pelt the men with stones.

In US: Health emergency extended as state battles HIV outbreak

Mike-Pence

The governor of Indiana in United States, Mike Pence, ordered on Monday, April 20, that the public health emergency declared in the state be extended as HIV outbreak increases in Scott County, a poor area in the state.

According to CNN, the HIV outbreak first started in mid-December and as at Tuesday, April 21, 135 cases had been recorded, 129 confirmed and in preliminary stages.

It is said that injection drug use, specifically of Opioid Opana prescription is the cause of the increase.

Scott County is facing an epidemic of HIV. But this is not a Scott County problem – this is an Indiana problem,” Pence said in March, 2015.

Report says normally, the county records an average of five new cases of HIV a year.

The emergency order, which was first issued in March and expected to expire on Friday, April 24, 2015, has now been extended to May 24.

While we’ve made progress in identifying and treating those affected by this heartbreaking epidemic, the public health emergency continues and so must our efforts to fight it,” Governor Pence said.
